If you had to sum up Jim Boylen’s time as head coach of the Chicago Bulls in one play or moment, chances are you might pick this ill-advised time out by the coach in Monday night’s home game against the Dallas Mavericks.
Because boy did he pick an awful time to call his guys in for a chat.
Part of the job of being a NBA coach is to help make it easier for your team to score points. The worst thing you could do would be to get in the way of your team doing just that – scoring an easy bucket.
But that’s what Boylen did Monday night and Mavericks star Luka Doncic wasn’t the only one baffled by the decision:
here’s Luka Doncic (seemingly) laughing at Jim Boylen for calling a timeout right before his team got a layup

A time out before an easy layup?
No great. Not great at all.
NBA Twitter had fun with the whole thing:
We have reached the point of the Bulls season where opposing players are laughing at Jim Boylen during the game @WorldWideWob pic.twitter.com/tmxNELxXdG

LOLOLOL! Jim Boylen calls a time out for the #Bulls right as they're about to get a layup. pic.twitter.com/KmXuGX11cc

How on earth can he be the head coach of a top 5 valued NBA franchise. I don’t blame Jim Boylen, I blame #garpax for ever giving him the job. https://t.co/kDq8I9BvIr

This might be the most Jim Boylen moment of all time. Calls a time out with Arcidiacono streaking wide open to the basket. Negates a layup. Ffs man pic.twitter.com/ZDaqcb6IqA

ESPN app just sent an alert notification trolling Jim Boylen.
This is real life, folks. pic.twitter.com/KJNdcbfNaI
