The 2019 NFL season is in the books. Super Bowl LIV has been decided (Andy Reid’s Kansas City Chiefs overcame a big second-half lead against Kyle Shanahan’s San Francisco 49ers), the 2020 NFL Draft order is set in stone (until teams begin trading picks and maneuvering the draft board), and the New Orleans Saints are looking forwards. And while it’s very early, expectations are as high as they’ve ever been with Sean Payton coaching the team: the Saints are Super Bowl contenders.
Per the early odds from BetMGM, the Saints have been given the fourth-best shot at winning Super Bowl LV in Tampa Bay next year. The Saints’ odds (+900) trail just three teams, including both squads that participated for Super Bowl LIV in Miami. Here’s how the top ten shakes out:
- AFC Kansas City Chiefs (+650)
- AFC Baltimore Ravens (+700)
- NFC San Francisco 49ers (+900)
- NFC New Orleans Saints (+1200)
- AFC New England Patriots (+1400)
- NFC Green Bay Packers (+1800)
- NFC Philadelphia Eagles (+1800)
- AFC Pittsburgh Steelers (+1800)
- NFC Seattle Seahawks (+1900)
- NFC Dallas Cowboys (+2000)
It’s interesting that the gap between the Saints and the top-rated NFC team is smaller than that between New Orleans and its next-best competition; that suggests the Saints are in a different tier than the tied-for-third Packers and Eagles. While Saints quarterback Drew Brees and Patriots passer Tom Brady have not re-signed with their teams just yet, their squads’ high placements in these early Super Bowl odds may suggest confidence that both Hall of Famers-to-be will return.
