USA Softball announces three Longhorns to Player of the Year watchlist

USA Softball recently released the list of the Top 50 players in contention for collegiate Player of the Year.

USA Softball recently released their list of the Top 50 players in contention for Collegiate Player of the Year.

Although there are six players from the Big 12 included on the list, three of those are Longhorns. The three nods are tied for second-most on the list, trailing only UCLA. On April 22, the final 25 student-athletes will be announced.

Miranda Elish

  • Senior right-handed pitcher
  • 226 strikeouts in 185.1 innings pitched in 2019
  • 18 victories, 29 starts, 20 complete games, 11 solo shutouts
  • NFCA Third-Team All-America

Mary Iakopo

  • Junior catcher/third baseman
  • 11 HR’s, 43 RBIs and 95 total bases in 2019
  • Five pick-offs from behind the plate
  • 2019 NFCA All-Central Region

Shealyn O’Leary

  • Sophomore right-handed pitcher
  • Softball America National Freshman Pitcher of the Year
  • 14-3 record in 2019
  • NCAA Division I-leading 0.65 ERA over 97.2 innings
