Dave Merritt using his Giants Super Bowl rings to motivate Chiefs

Dave Merritt has been using his New York Giants Super Bowl rings to help motivate the Kansas City Chiefs.

Dave Merritt, who won two Super Bowl rings with the New York Giants as a member of Tom Coughlin’s staff, is using those two rings to motivate his new crew on the Kansas City Chiefs.

Merritt was on Coughlin’s (and later, Ben McAdoo’s) staff from 2004-2017. He spent his first two seasons as a defensive assistant before being named the Giants’ safeties coach in 2006 — a position he held until 2017 when Coughlin was dismissed as head coach.

Merritt spent the 2018 on Steve Wilks’ staff in Arizona as the Cardinals’ defensive backs coach. When Wilks was fired after one season, Merritt was scooped by Andy Reid and given the same position with the Chiefs.

With the Giants, Merritt coached several Pro Bowl players such as Antrel Rolle, Landon Collins, Janoris Jenkins and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. In Arizona, he coached Patrick Peterson and Budda Baker.

This year in Kansas City, Merritt is coaching All Pro Tyrann Mathieu and rookie standout Juan Thornhill.
