Giants mourn the loss of Kobe Bryant, helicopter crash victims

The New York Giants sent out a statement on Sunday night mourning the death of Kobe Bryant, his daughter and seven other crash victims.

The sports world was brought to an immediate stop on Sunday with word that Los Angeles Lakers legend and all-time NBA superstar, Kobe Bryant, had perished in a helicopter crash in California.

The news became more chilling and heartbreaking when it was learned that Bryant’s 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and seven others, including a family of three, had also died as a result of the crash.

The flood of prayers, support, sadness and disbelief was instant. Athletes, celebrities, politicians and fans from across the world offered their thoughts and sympathies via social media, including well over 100 current and former members of the New York Giants.

The Giants organization also released a brief statement via Twitter offering their thoughts to Bryant’s family and many friends.

“The New York Giants join the rest of our world of sport in mourning the loss of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and all of the lives lost today. Our thoughts are with their family and friends,” the team wrote.

The 41-year-old Bryant and those on board were en route to a youth basketball game at the time of the accident.

In addition to Kobe and Gianna, John Altobelli, Keri Altobelli, Alyssa Altobelli, Christina Mauser, Sarah Chester, Payton Chester and pilot Ara Zobayan have also now been identified as victims.
