Daniel Jeremiah’s 2020 mock draft has the Bucs taking a new franchise QB

Could the Tampa Bay Buccaneers wind up drafting a quarterback in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft?

The 2020 NFL Draft is exactly three months away, and you can be sure that between now and then we’ll see plenty more mock drafts coming out from NFL experts and media members alike.

Right now, we are in the “1.0 phase” of NFL mocks, like Todd McShay’s from the other month. Today, we have our first mock draft from NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah, and to say that his pick for the Buccaneers at 14 is a shocker would be an understatement.

Despite many people believing Jameis Winston will be back at quarterback in 2020 despite throwing 30 interceptions this past season, Jeremiah has the Bucs selecting Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert with the 14th pick.

Here’s what Jeremiah said:

“Teams are all over the map on Herbert. However, he does fit the profile for Bruce Arians — he’s big, strong and smart.”

Again, it’s early in the process, but Jeremiah is not just some schmo. He worked for NFL organizations prior to becoming an analyst, so he has plenty of contacts in and around the league. That’s not to say any have confirmed the Bucs’ thinking, but if the team is thinking long-term, snagging a young quarterback and letting him sit behind Winston might be worth the investment.
