The NFL draft got a little more interesting on Monday with the decision of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagavailoa to declare for the draft. Despite suffering a hip injury that required surgery, he is still is expected to be a high pick.
Entering 2019, he was expected to be the top pick in the draft but multiple injuries got in the way. However, it is still quite possible he will go before the Arizona Cardinals make their selection at No. 8.
Since the Cardinals will not be looking for a quarterback themselves, the more QBs that are taken before the eighth pick means more possibilities outside the position for the Cardinals to choose from.
As many as five teams who select before the Cardinals could decide to go with a quarterback between the Bengals, Lions, Dolphins, Chargers and Panthers.
Tua’s addition also increases the possibility of a team wishing to trade up, giving the Cardinals more picks.
With a number of needs to fill, that isn’t a bad possibility.
As of now, early projections seem to have the Cardinals in line to take a top receiver or a top offensive lineman, both of which are considered needs for 2020.
