Report: Giants request permission to interview Josh McDaniels

The New York Giants have requested permission to interview Patriots OC Josh McDaniels for their vacant head coaching position.

The New York Giants head coaching search is already underway, and among the first potential Pat Shurmur replacements to receive a requested interview is New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

McDaniels is one of the most, if not the most high-profile head coaching candidate around the league. Spending years as the coordinator leading the Patriots juggernaut offense since 2012, several teams are already looking to get the chance to bring him in.

While having head coaching experience isn’t necessarily a requirement in the hiring process, McDaniels does have some experience — albeit unsuccessful — with the Denver Broncos from 2009-2010 (he was fired in-season in 2010).

McDaniels’ record with the Broncos in those seasons was 11-17 but he was able to revive his career serving as the Patriots offensive coordinator and leading a unit that has constantly been among the top of the league.

McDaniels interviewed with the Giants prior to the team hiring Pat Shurmur in 2018, but he was passed over. He also had agreed to become the next head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, but later backed up, showing a lack of integrity.
