Report: Coaches hesitant to join Giants without major structural changes

Head coaching candidates are reportedly hesitant to join the New York Giants unless they make major structural changes.

For those New York Giants fans who were hoping for some fundamental changes up and down the organization, they are about to be disappointed it appears.

The team has fired head coach Pat Shurmur, but is choosing to retain general manager Dave Gettleman, who many believe the game has passed by.

But the Giants have so many individuals deeply rooted in their process, it would be almost impossible for them detangle all of them out. That archaic structure with so many old-school thinkers will likely keep innovative minds and other coaches seeking some control over personnel away.

To his credit, Gettleman has made some tweaks to the scouting and personnel departments, but he can’t do anything about the ownership group, especially Chris Mara, who is the Giants’ senior vice president of player personnel.

The organization has too many shot callers outside of the general manager that makes the coaching — and GM job — less attractive to anyone who want sot be their own man.
