Dolphins head coach Brian Flores was fined $25,000 for his tirade directed toward an official at the end of Miami’s Week 14 road loss to the Jets, per NFL Network.
Miami took to East Rutherford two weeks ago to play Gang Green. The meeting came down to the wire, resulting in a game-winning field goal from Sam Ficken and the Jets.
The controversy, though, was in regard to how the Jets wound up in field goal position. What was originally a non-pass interference call was reviewed and changed in the Jets’ favor, as determined by senior vice president of officiating Al Riveron. Dolphins cornerback Nik Needham interfered with wide receiver Vyncint Smith on third-and-long, keeping the drive alive for Sam Darnold and company.
After the review, Flores was seen darting toward NFL official Craig Wrolstad following the final whistle, yelling, “That’s a horses—t call.”
In his postgame interview, Flores told reporters, “I was upset that we lost the game. I’m not going to answer any questions about the officiating.”
Regardless of his personal feelings, the penalty largely contributed to the Dolphins’ loss and a Jets win. Though the league has decided to fine Flores, he is likely more concerned about the direction of his franchise after coming up short yet again in New York with a Week 15 loss to the Giants.
