It’s over. Arsenal’s long, global nightmare is over.
Unai Emery was dismissed as head coach of the London club on Friday, following an embarrassing 2-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League this week.
Club legend Freddie Ljungberg, who had been serving as an assistant coach with the team, will step into an interim role while they search for a new head coach.
Emery has overseen kind of a bizarre tenure with the club, with some good results, a lot of bad results, and some weird, weird player management along the way. (The whole Granit Xhaka-as-captain thing will probably have a book written about it one day.)
Emery never seemed to get his footing, and after a run of poor results, it apparently became clear to club owner Stan Kroenke (he of the Rams), that the situation was untenable.
That’s all well and good. What was really great was seeing how Arsenal fans reacted to the sacking. Gaze upon their joy!

I don't like people getting fired, even if I think it's time. But I'm glad Unai let the kids play. Curious to see what Fred does with the squad. Two years ago, no one, not even Super Fred, thought that Fred4Arsenal manager was a real thing. Certainly not this soon. But I'm ready.

Can’t say I’m sad to see Emery go. There was some promise early on, but it fizzled out last season, and this season has been a disaster.
He never quite felt the right fit, the football was too often poor, and this bad spell was allowed go on too long.

Nobody can argue that it didn’t work out for Emery at Arsenal. Despite all the issues, he did give it his all. I mightn’t have agreed with everything he believed in, but he tried his best. Hopefully parting ways will prove to be best for all involved. Best of luck for the future.
