This wasn’t a situation he could just push through with hard work. His superhuman ability to block shots and rebound, which led to playing 11 NBA seasons, would not mean much. Good living, a good diet, staying in great shape … none of it mattered because his heart was failing. He needed a new one and received it Aug. 28 at Houston Methodist Hospital.
