Will take one for the team

The Bills certainly landed the prototypical Sean McDermott-type guy in Davis. After losses to Pitt and Cincy last season, Davis spoke to UCFSports.com and admitted he had heard the fans clamoring and blaming the team’s coaching staff for what had happened.

Davis took note and said no, that’s wrong. Here’s what Davis had to say:

A lot of the fans like to blame the coaching staff, but at the end of the day, it’s a lot of stuff the players could have controlled out there. I could have caught some balls in the end zone. DG (QB Dillon Gabriel) could have thrown better down the field. Things like that. You can’t sit there and blame the coaching staff. The players, we didn’t make plays. It’s plain and simple. We didn’t make the plays. When people are going at coach (Josh) Heup and all those guys, I just feel like it’s wrong because that’s not the reason why it happened.

McDermott, or any coach really, will probably like a guy who will go to bat for his coaches and teammates and take responsibility.
