8 Trade-up options back into 1st round for Cowboys

After looking at what Dallas might gain in a trade back from No. 17, here’s a look at what they might use to trade up from No. 51.

2020 picks for 2020 picks

So the best scenario for Dallas is likely doing trades for picks in this current draft. Three more editors volunteered their kids as candidates and Dallas would be able to swing a trade without selling the farm.

49ers (31) – 600 pts
Chiefs (32) – 590 pts
Colts (34) – 560 pts

Option 6: Cowboys send 2.19 (390) + 3.18 (180) + 4.17 (49) to 49ers for 1.31 (600) + 5.30 (19.8), 619 points for 619.8 points.

Option 7:  Cowboys send 2.19 (390) + 3.18 (180) + 5.18 (24.6) to Chiefs for 1.32 (590) + 2021 5th (10). 594.6 points for 600 points.

Option 8: Cowboys send 2.19 (390) + 3.18 (180) + 5.33 (18.6)  to Colts for 2.2 (560) + 5.14 (26.2). 588.6  points for 586.2 points.

Options 7 and 8, especially 8, most closely resemble the deal Dallas struck with Washington to kick off Day 2 in 2014, when they moved up to select defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence.

All of these, of course, can exist in different configurations with any of the possible trade-down teams being a possibility for Dallas to match with in an attempt to trade back up and get a second player they’ve identified as a first-round talent.

We took a look at six different big boards to build a composite board, and then applied the Cowboys’ recent draft tendencies to try and identify players the club would consider top prospects.
