A unique sports background
Boehm’s sports background is one of the more interesting backgrounds you’ll find.
He’s an offensive lineman, so you’d expect him to play a sport with size. That doesn’t exactly describe soccer, but he told the Dolphins team website that he was actually a soccer player first and foremost. His dad was his high school football coach, but Boehm wasn’t allowed to play football until seventh grade. A late bloomer, of sorts.
But get this… by eighth grade he already had received a verbal scholarship offer from Mizzou and two other colleges before ever even stepping foot in high school.
In high school and college, he was a starter his freshman year and team captain in his upperclass years as well.
In addition to playing soccer and football, Boehm told the Dolphins website that he was a discus thrower and like Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott, was also a wrestler. As an athletic freak, Boehm won state titles in football, wrestling and discus. In football, he also was the first-ever lineman to win the Thomas A. Simone Award, which is presented yearly to the most outstanding high school football player in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area.
The Dolphins need to run more outside zone runs like this, and use a fullback more consistently. This might be their best offense and it opens up the playaction pass. Evan Boehm held his own at center. He’s been a pleasant surprise. pic.twitter.com/AQP9fb4pOb
