A fake Twitter account

Unfortunately there’s no longer much evidence sitting around with this one, but on draft night in 2016 when Butler’s name was called by the Panthers, there was some issue concerning his social media account on Twitter. Well, not really his Twitter.

Butler did not go to a big-named program like Alabama, he was at Louisiana Tech.  Perhaps because of that, his Twitter account was notverified at the time. It now is, but in a post-draft Q&A interview with The News Star in Louisiana Butler discussed some type of situation that came about with someone who was pretending to be him via a fake account or perhaps multiple fake accounts.

Here’s a snippet of the interview:

TNS: Did you see the fake Twitter account?

VB: There were a couple of them, my agent said. He got them took off, though.

TNS: That’s kind of a sign you made it though, huh?

VB: Yeah. It was crazy. There were three or four of them. But Twitter still needs to get my verification, my blue check. I was at 1,000 and now I’m at 8. And my Instagram followers went up. I want a “K” at the end where it says like 10.5K or 12.5K (in thousands).

No worries, Vern. Big blue check marks on all the social media now.
