The curious case of Cody Ford

Speaking of not mentioning a player, when discussing his offensive line, McDermott did not once address Quinton Spain, a pending free agent. Spain was solid. Could the Bills do worse? Sure. Could they improve from him? Probably.

But the name mentioned and discussed by McDermott the most at the combine was Cody Ford. The rookie played at right tackle last season. In Year 2, could he move to guard?

“I don’t want to say he’s going to be this position or that position,”McDermott said, although he did say he liked Ford’s “flexibility” to play both positions.

Among other players McDermott mentioned over Spain were Ty Nsekhe, Jon Feliciano and even Ryan Bates. In addition, Dion Dawkins was brought up in a very non-newsworthy way. Everyone would expect he’s Buffalo’s left tackle, and he is.

“(Dawkins) has been there, really for the better part of three years for us,” McDermott said. “I think Don is in a pretty good spot right now.”
