What’s new on edge/ pass rusher?
McDermott knows the Bills have an important area of need and even shined on his defensive line as the most important area of need for his team this offseason, despite their need for playmakers on offense.
“We’ve got some guys that are free agents up front, we do believe in building it up, up front, on both sides of the ball,” McDermott said. “That’s a position that we’re always going to look twice at, to make sure we’ve got what we feel like is enough to win.”
Looking twice? Like during free agency and the draft? It’s possible the Bills will add to their pass rushing group during both. They’ve lacked a serious pass rush in recent seasons under McDermott, despite their efforts to improve it. Trent Murphy never really panned out and Shaq Lawson will likely test the free agent waters to see what he can get. Lawson’s 6.5 sacks led Buffalo’s defensive end group, but that’s not really a very good number. As a defensive coach, McDermott will be serious about improving this unit.
