Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brett Brown on Sunday said the team will be leaning on Matisse Thybulle defensively in the first round of the playoffs against the Boston Celtics.

Of course, the Celtics have several talented players on the team to match up with, including Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and others. The Sixers will be without perhaps their top defender in Ben Simmons while Glen Robinson III will also be out after suffering an oblique strain.

That leaves Brown & Co. having to fill the void of two players, both offensively and defensively. Brown said the team is considering starting Thybulle for defensive purposes but wouldn’t offer too many other details. Either way, Thybulle is ready to do his part, via Ky Carlin of Sixers Wire.

For me, it’s exciting because I think that means that I’ve earned a certain level of trust from my teammates and the coaching staff. As everyone hypes up the playoffs, if they trust me enough in the playoffs to do my job and my role and what I’ve been trying to prove for this whole season I think it’s exciting because I think my work’s paid off and now it’s really time to showcase everything that we’ve been preparing for.

Thybulle added that he has often had to guard the best player throughout the season and the upcoming series against the Celtics will be no different. He has emerged as a strong defender this season and appears poised to contribute during his first playoff series.

The 76ers and Celtics series tips off Monday at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
