Defensive foundation

A cornerback isn’t the quarterback, and actually, it’s rare that even a QB can do it all himself. White’s part of the 1/11th of the Bills defense that the front office touts in terms of their mindset. But locking up White, potentially through the 2026 season, gives the Bills just such a fantastic foundation on that side of the ball. Having that is a great signal both in their own locker room and outside of it.

Since 2017, the secondary of White and safeties Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde have led the way for the entire team. Now the defense has become a well-rounded, full unit, but that wasn’t always the case. Since that 2017 secondary turned heads in the league, the Bills have been known as one of the best pass defense teams around. No offense to the likes of Poyer or Hyde, both excellent in their own rights, but White’s the youngest of the three and the foundation is set for a long time in Buffalo.

Inside the building, naturally that’s great. Teammates appreciate seeing other teammates get their due. Outside of it and league-wide, like the face of Buffalo’s offense is Josh Allen, the face of one the NFL’s best defenses is going to be White moving forward. A great national perspective for the Bills and don’t think for a second those things don’t matter. Having talent is a good way to attract players to your team.

In addition, this could be a case where White also re-signs again with the Bills way, way down the road, by the way. If he plays out this current deal, he’ll only be 31 at the end of it. Another pay day for Tre in Buffalo?
