6 high-profile free agents the Bills could realistically land

In recent years the Bills have landed some great value free agents and we’ll certainly see Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane tap into those types of players once again.

DE Yannick Ngakoue

Age: 24

Big ol’ asterisk here. First and foremost, Yannick Ngakoue is no longer slated to be a free agent so… that’s a problem for such a list. But we’ll still put him here because the Bills could certainly be a team interested in trading for him.

The Jags used the non-exclusive franchise tag on him, the one teams most often use. What it means is other teams can still negotiate with Ngakoue, but the Jaguars will have the chance to match any offers and if he leaves, they’ll get two first-round picks. Or the Jags can still workout another deal with a team, which seems more likely.

Ngakoue has 37.5 sacks, 85 quarterback hits and 14 forced fumbles in his first four NFL seasons. He’s never had less than eight sacks in a single season, making him a tempting option for pass-rush needy teams.

Undoubtedly talented, thing could get sticky if trading for him. While the Bills would not want to give up any first-round picks, they might have to in order to get him. Just last season the Chiefs traded a first, second and  a swap of third-round picks to the Seahawks for the tagged Frank Clark. What the Bills would hope for is something similar to Dee Ford’s trade to the 49ers, a second-round pick, which is probably unlikely since Ngakoue is so much younger just entering the prime of his career. Plus, his new contract would be massive, too.
