WR AJ Green
Age: 31
AJ Green is on top of this list for many Bills fans, but we’ll see what happens with him. It’s a curious case.
Green needs little introduction as a player. He’s a seven-time Pro Bowler who has the size (6-foot-4) and speed that many Bills observers peg as the club’s biggest need on offense. But things are complex.
Word has it that the Bengals may be using the franchise tag on Green as early as Monday, locking him up. But the tag doesn’t always keep a player around. If they don’t want it, they holdout and get the move they want, usually. Green doesn’t seem to be that type of guy, especially for the position he plays. We’ve all heard of “diva” receivers, and he’s never given that type of vibe off. But you never know.
The Bengals have the first-overall pick and will likely select LSU quarterback Josh Burrow. Is that a rebuild that Green wants to stick around for? Green also missed the entire 2019 season with foot/ ankle injuries, but some questioned if he was just sitting out because the team wasn’t doing well toward the end of the year. A lot of speculation here, but for now, the Bills certainly have a need for a guy like him and would have the dollars to make it happen.
One thing Green wouldn’t solve is the lack of youth in the Bills’ receiving room. Cole Beasley and John Brown both had solid seasons, but they’re in the 30-plus grouping as is Green.
