Jourdan Lewis
Lewis’ $2.13 million base salary might not seem like much, but the writing is on the wall already that he could be the odd man out. All offseason, the new defensive staff (led by DC Mike Nolan) has emphasized the club wants long corners. Lewis is only 5-foot-10 and doesn’t have very long arms. The team could have given him the inside track on the slot corner job, but they re-signed Anthony Brown to a three-year deal with a $4.5 million signing bonus instead of letting him walk. That speaks volumes.
Brown isn’t much taller, at 5-foot-11, but has much longer arms than Lewis does, which helps when facing taller receivers. Lewis saw the club draft two long, athletic corners in Trevon Diggs and Reggie Robinson, and then sign Daryl Worley a few days later. That puts him around sixth on the depth chart heading into camp. In 2019, he was sixth among DBs in special teams snaps, indicating he wouldn’t be a detrimental loss there, either.
Lewis should’ve been concerned to begin with, and the possibility the club could look to shave mid-priced vets doesn’t help his chances.
