DE Jerry Hughes
Jerry Hughes has been a fixture of the Bills’ defense over the past seven years. The team and fans love him, as he is a maximum effort edge rusher. Hughes has been among the top ends with quarterback pressures during his time in Buffalo. His work earned him a two-year extension with the Bills.
While the pressures have been great and Hughes has been good against the run. He reacts well to all defensive situations. His bread-and-butter, though, is getting to the quarterback. His sack totals have been middle-of-the-road over the past few seasons. The hope is that the 31-year-old can find a bit of the magic from his first two seasons in Buffalo when he reached consecutive 10-sack years now that he has a bigger threat across the line from him in Mario Addison in 2020, similar to when the Bills had Hughes across from Mario Williams. The Bills will be happy even if he doesn’t reach this mark, though, as Hughes does so many things so well in this defense. However, another season of 4.5 sacks with a cap hit of $9.5 million will be concerning.
Also worth mentioning is the longest-tenured Bills player having multiple offseason surgeries to repair nagging injuries. Still, Hughes never missed a game in 2019, nor has he ever missed a game since the team traded for him.
