At the 2000 trade deadline, the Boston Bruins dealt defenseman Ray Bourque to the Colorado Avalanche. He was in his 21st year with the Bruins. Bourque returned to Colorado for the 2000-01 season. which culminated in the defenseman hoisting the Stanley Cup for the first time. Bourque retired after the season.
