5-star safety Jonah Williams announces college commitment

5-star safety Jonah Williams officially announced his college commitment on Saturday afternoon.

One of the very best players in the 2025 recruiting class came off the board on Saturday: five-star safety Jonah Williams announced his college commitment.

Unfortunately for the Oregon Ducks, they were not chosen. Williams committed to the Texas Longhorns, choosing them over Oregon, Texas A&M, LSU and USC.

Williams is rated by 247Sports as the No. 7 player and No. 1 safety in the nation. For a while, the Ducks were projected to land Williams and stood as the favorite in his recruitment. However, much has changed in this fluid situation over the past couple of months, and Williams chose to go elsewhere.

The Ducks are still in a great position at the safety spot after getting a commitment from five-star Trey McNutt this year. They also have a commitment from five-star cornerback Dorian Brew, so the secondary looks strong in this recruiting class.

As is always the case with head coach Dan Lanning, you can never count him out when it comes to recruiting and potential flips. The Ducks will likely stay on the case for Williams to try to flip him to Oregon before all is said and done.
