5 winners from Day 2 of the 2022 Senior Bowl

The pads came on during Wednesday’s practices at the Senior Bowl. However, the rain in Mobile made for some sloppy play from both sides. But there were still some players who stood out on Day 2. Here are the biggest winners from the second practice:

1. Colorado State TE Trey McBride

McBride measured in a little smaller than his listed size, but he’s had an excellent week in Mobile. He’s caught just about everything thrown to him and he’s found ways to get open in one-on-one drills. McBride has firmly solidified himself as the best tight end in the 2022 NFL Draft.

2. Florida State EDGE Jermaine Johnson

It’s pretty clear that Johnson is the best player in Mobile. He’s won just about every rep and it hasn’t really been close. Considering his size, length and athleticism, he is a sure-fire first-round pick this year. Johnson has displayed a variety of pass-rush moves and his power can be overwhelming for offensive tackles. He’s been borderline unblockable at the Senior Bowl.

3. Florida RB Dameon Pierce

Despite the rain, Pierce was able to stand out on Wednesday. He displayed excellent hands in the passing drills and had a number of impressive cuts in team drills. But his most impressive play came in the final drill in practice as he blocked a linebacker in pass protection in the competition period.

4. Houston DL Logan Hall

If Jermaine Johnson is the best player in Mobile, Logan Hall is No. 2. He’s had a fantastic week so far, dominating at defensive tackle. While he is a tad undersized for the position, he’s won nearly every rep.

His game is a bit reminiscent of Michael Bennett, who won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks. He’ll likely play as a defensive end on early downs in the NFL, but kick inside to defensive tackle on passing downs. He should be a first-round pick come April.

5. Oklahoma DT Perrion Winfrey

Winfrey already won the Senior Bowl weigh-ins with an 86″ wingspan, but his play on the field has been very impressive. Winning with both quickness and power, he’s made plays all week. Going into the Senior Bowl, he was viewed as a likely Day 3 pick. Now, it’s fair to wonder if he’ll be a top-50 selection.
