Michigan entered the Big Ten Tournament having lost two of its last three games, so in order to assert itself as a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, the only thing the Wolverines couldn’t do is lose to eighth-seeded Maryland.

Well, for a minute, it looked like that was the danger.

The Terrapins came out on fire, with much more intensity and solid shooting to help fuel Maryland to a 12-point first-half lead. As the Wolverines looked out of sorts and it felt as if Michigan was in danger of losing, the maize and blue came roaring back to take a lead at the end of the first half. Would they be able to sustain that energy in the second?

The answer was yes, but there were also some in-game fireworks, which led to Juwan Howard being ejected from the game.

Ultimately, Michigan hung on to beat Maryland, 79-66, and will advance to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals.

Here are our five takeaways from the game.
