Halftime changes

A problem the Bills have had this season can be summed with a time period. In the third quarter, the Bills have been brutal. It’s been an issue for the better part of the past two seasons for head coach Sean McDermott’s team. Perhaps it was the different circumstances, but during this halftime, the coaching staff made all the right decisions.

After the Steelers defensive line had their way with the Bills in the trenches during the first half, things were changed up. The clearest thing we saw some quicker passing coming from Allen, much like the game plan that Pittsburgh has had going all year on offense. The Bills offensive line did help there as well, as Hayward was effectively taken out of the game by becoming the focal point of the Bills’ O-line. A huge game from right tackle Daryl Williams against TJ Watt helped there.

And even on defense the Bills made a couple of adjustments as well. The Bills secondary almost dared the Steelers to pass deep, taking away a lot of things short in the second half.

Typically when the Bills struggle coming out half time, it’s under different circumstances. Buffalo was effectively trailing in the game, although it was 9-7 in their advantage, but they looked like the worse team,. So perhaps while the third quarter will still be a worry… we can have some faith the Bills can find a way to improve if they’re trailing against good teams like could very well happen in the postseason.
