5 takeaways from Notre Dame’s win over Duke

Notre Dame beat Duke to start 2020 off right. Here are five quick takeaways from the opening day victory for the Irish.

My goodness.

Kyle Hamilton looked nothing short of outstanding on the opening series, stepping up and making a couple really big tackles before being thrown at and then rising to the challenge when Duke dared to throw at him on fourth down to open the game.

Unfortunately this game will be remembered for Hamilton suffering what was a scary looking injury to his leg/foot.  No word as of posting as to what the exact injury is but we’ll have all the details when they’re known.  The impact of Hamilton being out for any amount of time is obvious to this Notre Dame secondary.

The Ben Skowronek injury on offense didn’t help matters either.  Receivers struggled to get open most of the afternoon.  What lacked in experience together entering the season still had me convinced the depth and talent at the position would be a strength but no Kevin Austin and Skowronek having to leave early spells trouble for the defense.
