5 takeaways from Notre Dame’s win over Duke

Notre Dame beat Duke to start 2020 off right. Here are five quick takeaways from the opening day victory for the Irish.

Kyren Williams was a relative unknown last year, playing largely on special teams in just four games a season ago.  We’ve heard throughout camp how impressive he’s been and despite the offensive line not doing a whole lot to help him early on, he was the best player on the field for Notre Dame’s offense the entire afternoon.

It’s not just because of his yardage or his pair of scores, but he was solid in pass protection as well, picking up a blitzer on Ian Book’s first touchdown pass of the season to Avery Davis.

I especially liked later in the game when we saw Williams and freshman Chris Tyree in the backfield together.  Tyree was able to pick up a long run on one such instance and I’d expect to see Tommy Rees get creative with that as the season goes on.
