After missing the first of the expected matchups due to COVID, Michigan basketball and Michigan State finally got to square off at the Breslin Center in East Lansing.
The Wolverines, of course, are unranked, but MSU entered the game ranked No. 10 — which made for a bold proposition for the maize and blue, to go on the road and beat a top 10 team. Could Michigan pull off the upset?
The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with seven lead changes and seven ties. Michigan led by as much as six, while the Spartans took a four-point lead into the half. So, in order to pull off the upset, the Wolverines would have to get some second-half mojo going in hostile territory.
But then the rails came off.
Michigan couldn’t get anything going offensively and certainly couldn’t stop the Spartans. The second-half woes were such a huge factor, the Wolverines only managed three points in the first eight minutes, as MSU took a 15-point lead.
It was too much for the maize and blue to handle, and the three-game winning streak came to an end, as MSU won, 83-67.
Here are our five takeaways.
