Can the offense get off to a quicker start?
What could prove to be important in this one is the Bills offense doing something they typically don’t: get off to a good start.
As referenced, Josh Allen has had a knack for getting things going late. In most games, especially the playoffs, you don’t want to put that off as much as the Bills have in recent memory. Put points on the board as fast as possible, Buffalo. This, of course, doesn’t just fall on Allen. It’s on the offense as a whole and offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. Typically the first series or two from a team have their plays scripted and already picked out. Making some good play selections early this week will be huge.
While the Bills defense is good, the Texans have explosive potential. But even if Buffalo’s defenders hold tight, getting up early will cause the Texans to bail on 1,000-yard rusher Carlos Hyde. Don’t forget, the Bills’ run defense isn’t exactly perfect.
But the proof is in the puddle in regard to how difficult this might be for the Bills. The Bills haven’t scored a first quarter touchdown since Week 9 against Washington. That was all the way back on Nov. 3. The Bills have been shut out in the first quarter five times since. In the month of December, the Bills scored just 23 first half points total in four games.
Not the best coverage by the #Redskins here, but #Bills WR Cole Beasley takes advantage of it, Josh Allen finds him at the goal line for the opening score pic.twitter.com/CgifZDDMnD
