What a difference a year makes.

A year ago, a nationally ranked Nevada team hosted a gritty little Aztecs. Eric Musselman was at his peak and the Caroline twins were rolling into an NCAA Tournament birth. While San Diego State needed the auto-bid to get back into the tourney.

These aren’t the same teams facing off in Reno on Saturday night, but schedule computers spit out two years of the Wolf Pack hosting the Aztecs on the final game of the regular season.

San Diego State put a 13-point beat down on the Wolf Pack in their previous meeting in Viejas. The nationally recognized defense kept the Wolf Pack at 28.1% from the field and forced Louisiana Tech transfer Jalen Harris to try to beat them.

The Aztecs were efficient on offense with 4 guys scoring double-digits.

If there was a game plan for the Aztecs to win, they just have to look in the mirror.

The bench needs to score and they have to move the ball around. Malachi Flynn can put his team on his back, but Jordan Schakel and Trey Pulliam need to contribute big when they get their minutes in. You can count of Malachi to get 15+ points and Yanni Wetzell close to a double-double, but that it might not be enough to on a tough road environment.

Right now, the Wolf Pack is the 85th NET Ranked team, and they are riding a 6-game winning streak. But like the games away from San Diego, these gritty Aztecs have found a way to persevere.
