5 of the most memorable Christmas Day performances by a rookie player

With a new crop of players set to play, Rookie Wire took a look at some of the best Christmas Day performances by rookie players.

1959: Wilt Chamberlain, Philadelphia Warriors

Among the many records held by Chamberlain, the Hall of Famer scored the most points by a rookie on Christmas Day in NBA history when he tallied 45 in 1959.

Chamberlain also added 34 rebounds and two assists in the contest as blocks weren’t counted as an official stat so he likely had quite a few of those for the Warriors, too.

The performance by Chamberlain isn’t even his best on the holiday, either. Two years later, Chamberlain recorded 59 points and 36 rebounds in a loss to the Knicks.

The Christmas Day record for most points scored is 60 by Bernard King of the Knicks in 1984. In fact, only three players have scored at least 50 on the holiday: King, Chamberlain and Rick Barry (50).
