5 Instant Takeaways from No. 3 Notre Dame’s win at Pitt

Notre Dame got bad injury news earlier in the week but came out firing on almost all cylinders in their rout of Pittsburgh. Takeaways here.

Michael Mayer continues to impress

I said it at the start of the season and I’ll say it again.

Notre Dame lost a tight end to the draft this year who had a year of eligibility remaining, and that player, Cole Kmet, was the first tight end selected in April’s NFL Draft.

And Notre Dame is stronger at tight end than they were a year ago.

Michael Mayer is a huge reason why that’s the case as Tommy Tremble was again doing his thing in the blocking game but it was Mayer who hauled in five receptions Saturday, including his second career touchdown.

Baby Gronk is pretty unfair to call a guy who is still a true freshman but his physical presence alone makes him look like an upper-classman while his performance on the field continues to both improve and impress.
