5 Instant Takeaways from No. 3 Notre Dame’s win at Pitt

Notre Dame got bad injury news earlier in the week but came out firing on almost all cylinders in their rout of Pittsburgh. Takeaways here.

Ben Skowronek breaks out in a huge way

Injuries have undoubtedly slowed Ben Skowronek’s start to the 2020 season but he had a coming out party in white and gold Saturday as he was the recipient of a pair first half touchdown passes by Ian Book.

Skowronek ran a nice route to get wide open on the first touchdown of the game and then made a fantastic play on the ball and displayed incredible body control to avoid an immediate tackle and instead take the reception a total of 73 yards for a 14-3 Irish lead.

“Just a simple go route and had a good feeling that Ian (Book) was going to go to me,” Skowronek said, “it really comes down to stepping up and making a play”.

Make a play he did on a day that started with the bad news about Kevin Austin being out for the season.

Hopefully this is a sign of Skowronek finally getting healthy, as he certainly looked it, and a big step in the right direction for Notre Dame’s receivers as they’ve stumbled as a collective out of the gate.
