The 49ers on Monday made a blockbuster trade with the Indianapolis Colts, sending defensive lineman DeForest Buckner to the Indianapolis Colts for the No. 13 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Schefter reported a new deal will pay Armstead $21 million per year. He was entering the final year of his rookie contract, and the 49ers were already up against the salary cap and wouldn’t have been able to fit Buckner along with tight end George Kittle.
Buckner started all 63 games he played in four years for the 49ers, and posted 28.5 sacks, including 19.5 the last two years.
The trade comes on the heels of the 49ers signing DL Arik Armstead to a five-year deal worth $85 million.
San Francisco now has two first-round picks, a pair of fifth-round selections, one sixth-round pick and two seventh-round picks.
