49ers TE George Kittle out 8 weeks with broken bone in foot

The 49ers will be without their best playmaker for possibly the rest of the season.

The never-ending list of players on injured reserve for the 49ers continues to grow, now with George Kittle heading there. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Kittle broke a bone in his foot on Sunday against the Seahawks and will miss eight weeks.

Kittle has been the 49ers’ best playmaker this season and Jimmy Garoppolo’s favorite target once again, catching a team-high 37 passes for 474 yards and two touchdowns. This is a huge blow to San Francisco as Kittle could miss the remainder of the season, considering there are only nine weeks remaining.

This news comes on the same day that it was reported Jimmy Garoppolo will miss extended time with an ankle injury, possibly requiring surgery. Both players will be placed on injured reserve.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network shared a list of players on IR or likely heading there, which is startling. And that doesn’t include Deebo Samuel, who was activated off IR after missing time with injury.

The 49ers are currently in last place in the NFC West at 4-4, and without two of their most important offensive players, it’ll be difficult to mount a second-half comeback in the NFL’s best division.

They’ll face the Packers on Thursday night and then the Saints in Week 10 before getting a bye one week later.
