Prior to meeting the New York Giants in primetime on Thursday Night Football, the San Francisco 49ers announced a couple of roster moves, including a promotion to the active roster.
On Thursday, the 49ers announced they’re promoting cornerback Tre Swilling to the active roster. To make room for Swilling on the 53-man roster, the 49ers are waiving recently signed veteran defensive back Anthony Brown.

With cornerback Samuel Womack hitting the injured reserve, the 49ers have an opening in the secondary.
Swilling was recently elevated to the roster for gameday against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. Heading into Week 3, he will now have a spot on the official roster.
Swilling was signed by the Tennessee Titans in 2022 as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia Tech. Along with the Titans and 49ers, Swilling has spent time on the Saints practice squad in his young football career.
The former Yellow Jacket will slide in behind Deommodore Lenoir, Charvarious Ward and Isaiah Oliver on the 49ers’ depth chart.
