49ers place DT Javon Kinlaw on Reserve/COVID-19 list

The 49ers have now placed nine players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Rookie DL Javon Kinlaw went on the list during the Bye.

The 49ers on Wednesday announced rookie defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. They also made it official that they were awarded defensive end Takk McKinley off waivers.

Kinlaw joins fellow defensive lineman Arik Armstead on the list, and becomes the ninth 49er to land on the Reserve/COVID-19 list since training camp.

The team isn’t in the facility because of the Bye week and because they’re in league-mandated intensive COVID-19 protocols. However, head coach Kyle Shanahan on Tuesday told reporters the team would be testing daily and that players would be required to undergo testing each day before 11:00 AM.

Kinlaw, the No. 13 overall pick in the 2020 draft, is coming off his best game as a pro against the Saints. He had his first sack and finished the game with 1.5 to go with a tackle for loss.

If this were a normal game week it’d be hard to envision Kinlaw getting through protocol in time to practice at all. With the Bye week though he’ll get a few extra days to come back with the requisite negative results.
