The 49ers on Monday announced that they’ve agreed to terms with 11 undrafted rookie free agents. All 11 of the players were previously reported as having agreed to sign on with San Francisco after going unselected in the 2023 draft.
This could be the just the first wave with a handful of others trickling in. Here are the initial 11 UDFA additions:
RB Ronald Awatt, UTEP
FB Jack Colletto, Oregon State
OL Joey Fisher, Shepherd
CB D’Shaun Jamison, Texas
RB Khalan Laborn, Marshall
OL Corey Luciano, Washington
OL Ilm Manning, Hawaii
LB Mariano Sori-Marin, Minnesota
DL Spencer Waege, North Dakota State
WR Shae Wyatt, Tulane
S Avery Young, Rutgers
There are a couple notable things here.
First, they did not sign a quarterback after indicating they’ll be looking for one in the UDFA class. They might be trying to nail the signing in case they wind up needing to lean on that QB at any point which may be why they’re taking extra time to ensure they’re adding the right player. There may also be some delay while they await a progress update on Brock Purdy.
The other thing that sticks out is the trio of offensive lineman. San Francisco didn’t draft any players along the offensive front, which means there could be some opportunity for the UDFAs to make a mark. Fisher and Manning both played tackle in college. Luciano was a center.
Rookie UDFAs will get to report to rookie minicamp with the other draft picks. The 49ers have had some success finding contributors in the UDFA pool, so it’ll be worth keeping an eye out for some of these names through the offseason program and into training camp.
