The San Francisco 49ers can breathe a small sigh of relief on the injury front heading into Week 4.
Quarterback Brock Purdy, who is dealing with back soreness that required an MRI following Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams, is slated to be a full participant in Wednesday’s practice according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. That puts Purdy on track to play against the New England Patriots.
It never seemed as though Purdy’s back injury was serious. Shanahan on Monday in a conference call told reporters he was hopeful Purdy would be good to practice by Wednesday.
However, despite the coach’s optimism, the 49ers’ injury luck this year made it hard to write off even something minor.
Purdy played very well in the 49ers’ defeat against the Rams. He completed 22-of-30 throws for 292 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran it 10 times for 41 yards which may explain some of the soreness with his back.
It’s worth keeping an eye on Purdy’s status throughout the week, but given the nature of the ailment and his full participation in Wednesday’s session, there’s every reason to believe he’ll suit up and be under center when the 49ers host the Patriots.
Kickoff from Levi’s Stadium is slated for 1:05pm Pacific Time.
