44 Tennessee Volunteer players miss practice due to COVID-19 concerns

The University of Tennessee canceled a scrimmage due to a lack of players.

The pandemic continues and University of Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt delivered some grounding news Saturday.

Pruitt said seven or eight players on the team have active cases of coronavirus and due to contract tracing, 44 players did not practice over the past couple of days.

Pruitt said that 48 players have missed 14 days due to quarantine (two players quarantined twice), adding that contact tracing has really been difficult for the preparation of the team. There was a scrimmage planned for Saturday at Neyland Stadium, but that was canceled due to the lack of players available.

Tennessee is scheduled to open its season and SEC schedule Sept. 26 at Texas A&M.
