Getting Jake Fromm in good standing comes with a desire to do so on and off the field. Due to the racially-charged text messages that Fromm saw released after the Bills selected him in the fifth-round of the recent draft, he’s going to need to use the preseason to earn the trust of his teammates. Sometimes there’s nothing like the heat of battle to do that. Fromm will get his chance to do so without games, but there’s a chance that games can help, too.

In terms of actual football, missing the preseason hurts Fromm in a similar light as Diggs. The wideout is going to have less time to build chemistry with Allen. In terms of Fromm, he’s going to have less time to get on the same page with the Bills’ entire slew of playmakers and learn his first NFL offense. Games really help out there.

On the flip side, Allen, and backups Matt Barkley and Davis Webb already have plenty time in their pasts with Buffalo’s offensive playbook. This puts Fromm behind the eight ball, certainly, in terms of potentially winning a preseason battle for the No.2 quarterback job behind Allen.
