Philadelphia (Pa.) Northeast 2021 three-star cornerback Tyreek Chappell got an offer March 6 that meant everything to him.

The scholarship was from Michigan, one of Chappell’s dream universities.

“I’ve been talking with the coaches every day,” Chappell told WolverinesWire. “I’ve been talking to Michigan for three months now.”

Chappell’s primary recruiter is cornerbacks coach Michael Zordich, and the pair have developed a “great relationship” thus far in the process.

The 5-foot-11, 177-pound cornerback was set to make visits to Penn State (March 21), Texas A&M (March 28) and Michigan (April 4) until coronavirus concerns halted his plans.

“The virus has messed up my recruitment because I was supposed to visit three schools,” Chappell said, “and now I can’t.”

But Chappell isn’t going to let the Wolverines slip through the cracks because of COVID-19. As soon as in-person recruiting is allowed, he’s going to Ann Arbor.

“When I get there, I want to look at the facilities and meet the coaches face-to-face,” he said. “I’m just excited and want to see everything.”

Chappell has 23 offers, but he’s currently focused on Texas A&M, Penn State, Michigan, Miami (Fla.), West Virginia, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Kentucky. He went to Tennessee’s junior day March 7, one day following the offer from Michigan.

His commitment is set for July 4.

What makes Michigan special to Chappell is the number of players head coach Jim Harbaugh has sent to the NFL. He also likes the colors – maize and blue.

“The colors are crazy,” Chappell said. “Every since I was a little kid I love those colors.”

Chappell is ranked No. 846 in the nation, No. 69 at cornerback and No. 22 in Pennsylvania, according to the 247Sports composite.
