Ed Oliver’s timeline

So far through training camp, we’ve had great vibes off the field from Ed Oliver. He was cleared of all charges in regard to being arrested after he was pulled over earlier this offseason. On the field? There’s no good news yet.

So far through three days of training camp practices, Oliver has yet to partake in any work. He’s been sidelined due to a hip injury. McDermott provided a bit of an update on the second-year pro on Wednesday.

“We’ve had some guys miss some time, it’s always a concern regardless of who it is because of the short ramp-up time in particular,” McDermott said via video conference in regard to the alter offseason due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. “He’s got a little bit of his hip thing going on right now, soreness there. We think he’ll have it knocked out in a couple of days from now, so we’re encouraged by his progress as of the last couple of days. Anxious to get him back.”

That’s a positive update from McDermott. It’s unclear when exactly Oliver will get back, but there’s some comfort in hearing he probably won’t miss any game time. In addition to McDermott’s update, various media outlets, including The Athletic, reported that Oliver was on the sideline during practice holding his helmet doing some individual drills. That’s not a sign of playing soon, but certainly not a bad update to hear.
