3 former Bills named to list of best NFL players to wear their number

Bruce Smith, Troy Vincent, Terrell Owens represent the Buffalo Bills on NFL Wire’s list.

Many consider former Buffalo Bills defensive end and Hall of Famer Bruce Smith the best to ever take down the quarterback, but he was recently put into another “best of” category.

Tracking down every player to ever wear each individual jersey number in NFL history, the NFL Wire named Smith the best to ever wear No. 78. Based on his accolades, that makes plenty of sense. The number you’re looking for is 200, the number of times the former No.1 overall pick of the Bills took down opposing QBs.

Smith is the most prominent player on the list that suited up for the Bills, but he’s not alone. Two others who previously played dawned the Bills’ red, white and blue are on this one.

The current executive vice president of football operations for the NFL also appears on the list, cornerback Troy Vincent. No. 23 in his career, Vincent played for the Bills in the later stages of his career from 2004-2006. He played one final season in 2007 with the Redskins. Vincent had his most successful team tenure with the Eagles, prior to joining the Bills.

Rounding out the Bills on this list is a guy that only played one season with the team, but he’s still a memorable player in team history: wide receiver Terrell Owens. While only playing for the Bills during the 2009 season, it’s not shocking to still see No. 81 Owens jerseys outside New Era Field during tailgates. One of the best wide receivers of all-time, Owens always looks back on his time with the Bills fondly and has admitted he wanted to return to the team for another season, which didn’t happened.
