3 Defensive Keys for the Sooners when they play Western Carolina University

What does the Sooners’ defense need to do to rebound from a disappointing week 1 performance vs. Tulane? Here are 3 keys for their matchup with WCU.

Find a playmaker!

No, this isn’t talk about a wolfpack. However, it is about the Sooners cornerback room.

Woodi Washington and DJ Graham started the game last week. Neither one has taken the reigns of the number one guy in the room though. Maybe it becomes a 1A and 1B type of situation which isn’t bad at all.

Nonetheless, the Sooners need at least one corner they can depend on for a timely breakup, interception, coverage rep or tackle. The likeliest candidates are the two guys that have been leading the room all summer. Look for one to come up and start to separate with a much better showing than last week. No specific cornerback  was bullied in week one but no cornerback stood out either.

Playmakers that are dependable at all levels are what makes a championship team a championship team. The backend of the Sooners defense needs that to complement the savages they have in the front seven if they want to achieve the lofty goals set before them.
