A trio of Kansas City Chiefs players will change their jersey numbers in 2022, and more could be on the way. According to Chiefs team reporter Matt McMullen, Nick Bolton, Josh Gordon and rookie Leo Chenal are all changing their jersey numbers.
Bolton, who wore No. 54 in Kansas City as a rookie, will be going back to his college jersey worn at Mizzou, No. 32. That jersey was previously worn by Tyrann Mathieu, who recently signed with the New Orleans Saints. It’s been worn by some great defensive backs and running backs before, but seeing it on a linebacker in the NFL will be new for the Chiefs.
Chenal, a rookie, was assigned No. 49 when he first came to Kansas City. He’ll now take No. 54, which was previously worn by Bolton, and Damien Wilson before him. Personal opinion: That’s a much better number for a linebacker, especially one that will be playing the strong side.
‼️ It's number change szn ‼️
Nick Bolton ➡️ #32
Leo Chenal ➡️ #54
Josh Gordon ➡️ #12
Possibly more to come, stay tuned!

Finally, Gordon is switching to No. 12, which is the jersey he wore at Baylor and with the Cleveland Browns when he entered the league. Gordon wore No. 19 last season in Kansas City. The No. 12 jersey has been worn by WR Gehrig Dieter since 2017. Dieter was waived ahead of the start of rookie minicamp.
McMullen says there could be more jersey changes to come in the future. With No. 19 now free, will JuJu Smith-Schuster ditch his college No. 9 and go back to the jersey he wore with the Steelers?
